New Baptist Church Dedicated

The new Hastings Baptist church on the corner of Karamu and Lyndon Roads was opened and dedicated on Saturday afternoon.

The congregation assembled outside the church, where the builder, Mr T. G. Wrightson, handed over the keys to the president of the New Zealand Baptist Union, the Rev F. Reddell. Mr Reddell opened the door and declared the church open. After the congregation was seated in the church, the minister, the Rev D. Rogers, dedicated the building.

Greetings from various sections of the community were conveyed. The Mayor of Hastings, Mr R. V. Giorgi, said that Hastings shared the joy and enthusiasm of the Baptist adherents in the completion of the church. Mr Reddell brought greetings from Baptist communities throughout New Zealand.

The Rev T. Cadman brought greetings from Napier Baptists and from the Central Districts Association of the Baptist Union. The Rev J. Hodder, minister of St David's Presbyterian Church, representing the National Council of Churches, brought greetings from all churches in Hastings.

The church was full for the ceremony. The seating capacity of the new church is 550.
