| Havelock North Baptist Fellowship - 1985 |
Peter Pritchard - Newsletter - 28 July, 1985During the recent months there have been numerous meetings to discuss the pros and cons of establishing a Baptist Fellowship at Havelock North. Much prayer has been offered in order that God's will can be ascertained. In all of this, enthusiasm has mounted an "doors have been opened". A very suitable building is available at a reasonable rental. This is the old Fire Station which has been tastefully renovated and is being leased by the Bridge Club. They will sublease it to the Fellowship for use on Sundays and at agreed times during the week. We are indebted to Rev. Ian Taylor for his leadership and chairmanship of the initial meetings until a small "working committee" was established recently under the chairmanship of Dr Colin Wakefield. This committee is working very effectively and is looking at every aspect of the needs of a newly formed Fellowship. It is proposed to hold the first worship service of the Fellowship on Sunday 15 September at 9.30am. A full report and Fellowship formation proposals will come to our next Quarterly Members' Meeting. As your Pastor, I am excited about this development. It will provide a place of worship, and a base for outreach right in the community where many of our people live. Yes, it will have a far reaching effect on the "Mother Church". That effect, though inevitably painful, can also be the means of bringing those of us who remain to a deeper level of commitment to Christ and His church, with a stimulated desire to reach out to others who as yet do not know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
