Together
The Christian life is a life lived with others. Anyone who has truly come into a relationship with Jesus Christ has been adopted into God's family. Being part of the family of God includes getting together with other brothers and sisters in Christ. Christian faith brings a person into Christian community. It is also an ideal place from which to explore the claims of Christ for those who are investigating.

The expression of that communty life happens at Hastings Baptist Church through Sunday morning services, focussed meetings for Children and Youth, through Growth Groups in homes during the week, and as part of the informal sharing of lives among church family members.

Sundays

Central to our Christian community is the corporate gathering together for prayer, engaging with God through the Scriptures, rejoicing in song, affirming core truths, sharing in the Lord's Supper and baptising new believers. Since New Testament times followers of Christ have especially gathered each Sunday: symbolically aligning themselves with Jesus' resurrection on the first day of the week nearly 2000 years ago.

Hastings Baptist Church gathers each Sunday at 10.00 am. We do so building on the pattern of previous generations while also expressing our faith in a contemporary way for this generation. Everyone is invited.

What To Expect When You Visit

Our Sunday service, while having a structured format is informal in style, and typically goes for about 75 minutes. During that time we:

  • Join in hymns and songs, old and new - with the words projected onto a large screen
  • Remind ourselves that we gather as a community – through acknowledging birthdays and wedding anniversaries
  • Children and youth leave for their own programmes – about 10 minutes into the service
  • Read from the Bible - these are provided in the seat pockets
  • Participate in corporate prayer – usually led from the front
  • Hear how God has been at work in our lives – volunteers giving these testimonies
  • Take up a collection for the work of the church – encouraging guests that this is for regulars
  • Listen to a sermon – applying God’s word to our lives today
  • Celebrate the Lord’s Supper – on the first Sunday of each month
  • Give thanks for new babies; baptise believers; and welcome people into church membership – all as these occasions arise
  • Share in informal conversation after the meeting – over a cup of coffee or tea

Reflections

Merely having an open mind is nothing; the object of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid.- G.K. Chesterton
