Who We Are
Where Have We Come From

February 1990

HASTINGS Rev Peter Eaton 10.30am & 7.00pm

Christmas Eve was the busiest Sunday of the year. Following the baptismal service, the new kitchen and lounge were officially opened by two longest standing members. A cup of tea and Christmas cake was served. The barbecue tea in the Church grounds preceded a combined Community Churches Carol Service in the Municipal Theatre. The new lounge was needed for the overflow from the Church at the Christmas Day Service. A number were presented with certificates after completing the TEE course on discipleship.

The mid-winter Christmas dinner and entertainment was enjoyed by Church families and visitors. Some members of W.D.F.F. were our guests at a morning baptismal service. Dinesh and Olwyn Halder were kept busy with various engagements including preaching at a morning service. Other guest preachers have been Dr John Hitchens (Principal N.Z. Bible College) and Rev Fred Magbonua (F.E.S.C. Philippines) with gospel singer Romy Dinglas. Mavis Mardon went to Seoul for the B.W.A. Congress, but an unfortunate accident soon after arrival confined her to a wheelchair and restricted participation in meetings and activities. Steve Trim has been appointed to part-time "On the Job Training" emphasis towards young people. A TEE preaching course and some outreach with street kids have commenced.

December 1990

HASTINGS Rev Peter Eaton 10.30am, 7pm

The new hall now under construction is expected to be finished towards the end of the year. Rev Peter McNee was the guest preacher at a morning service in October. Day Care Centre children and parents, and members of local Girl Guide groups have been our guests at the morning services. Recently, a group were responsible for a service at the Hawke's Bay prison. This is to be an ongoing outreach (approx bimonthly). Senior citizens were taken for a Sunday drive, provided with afternoon tea in the new lounge and then delivered home. Welcome home to Heather Hunt for a rest from her work in Nepal.

N.Z. Baptist Magazine

Since the first days of the church, Hastings Baptist submitted regular summaries of church life and events to the New Zealand Baptist Magazine.  As part of the centenary archive those updates have been collected and reproduced here.  It is a catalogue of people and moments that have shaped the church’s story.
