Who We Are
Where Have We Come From

February 1993

HASTINGS Rev Peter Eaton 10.30am 7pm

Pastor Peter and Penny attended a Conference in Sydney, afterwards, Peter spent a week in Japan. After Christmas the whole family enjoyed a holiday in Hawaii. Special thanks to members who led Sunday Services during the summer break. We welcomed many visitors to our congregation over the last few weeks. Missionary guests have been Graeme and Mary Taylor from Lae and Gary Weatherhead from Nanterre, France. Two of our ladies - Heather Stuart and Rosalie Petherick - have had major surgery in Auckland and Canberra. We have seen God's hand at work in the times following and look forward to when they are home again.

With regret we accepted the resignation of our pastor and family who have accepted a call to the Rostrevor Church in Adelaide. Rev Rob Kilpatrick informed, encouraged and challenged us at Missions Weekend. We hosted a Good Friday service attended by Methodist and Salvation Army friends. In recent weeks the Drama team has set the scene before the sermon. Lynette Mill spoke at a 'Celebration for Women' evening arranged by the Hawke's Bay Baptist Women's Ministries. Badminton and indoor bowls have recommenced.

The Pastoral Search committee are working hard to find the person of God's choice to lead us. The young people are wearing T-shirts they have designed. Linda Johnson's "Quiet Day with God" was a refreshing experience for those who participated. Our choir sang at the Napier morning service recently. Brian and Clare Ingram have moved to Tauranga.

November 1993

HASTINGS 10:30am, 7pm

Celebration and farewell for our pastor, his wife and family was a time of fellowship, food and fun entertainment. We wish them well as they make their way to Adelaide. Members were surveyed to assess strengths, weaknesses, style of pastoral ministry and future direction for our church. The church hall is now debt free. The puppet team held an outreach recently at K-Mart. They also performed at Taradale Baptist. Ladies Day was memorable. Ruth Callister now Children's Church leader.

N.Z. Baptist Magazine

Since the first days of the church, Hastings Baptist submitted regular summaries of church life and events to the New Zealand Baptist Magazine.  As part of the centenary archive those updates have been collected and reproduced here.  It is a catalogue of people and moments that have shaped the church’s story.
